my account got unbanned, but I don't really like the new method of banning. it seems like ban first, ask questions later

Mine got unbanned about 30 minutes ago. I was unable to play for about 4 hours.

I would really like to know how they determine who is botting. My first thought was AFKing in the festival games caused this, but I know at least one person that didn't do any of that and still got banned. If this many real people were actually detected as bots, some major work needs to be done. They can't expect people to stop farming out of fear of being marked as a bot just because they are in the same area as the bots.

Im still at work but have done around 15 hrs of afking for this title. Around 2-3 hrs at a time, while going to do other things. Yesterday i spent my time making a new sin and playing around in the monastery with my other toons. Do they even check what u do in this game or u just ban you for being afk too much in a certain amount of time?

Hm lets see would a bot waste money on sets of fissure and stupid other gold sinks. Would they make a sin of all things lol.

So getting banned without even having a human check your record on this game at all seems like garbage to me. I rly hope this isnt the case for me. Even if they correct it quickly i will lose even more faith with a-net in there GW games and future games.

I was in my GH and went to eat...came back to find my account logged out and stating I was temporarily, then permanently, banned; however, I was reinstated before my support question could even be sent...

I asked Gaile in ID1 why...and why those of us affected didn't even get an apology for an "accidental" banning? She said we should've at least got one...

Well, my reply to my ticket from GW Support was "We need your account name, e-mail, etc."...Hmm...such support, since it is needed and sent with EVERY support ticket you send! Ah well, just glad they don't have their finger on the red button in the White House!

I am not banned, and I absolutely know I have never done any wrong in GW (along with many other games).

While this situation look interesting, and perhaps Anet's fault, it is a good idea to remind and refrain yourself from reaching real permanent ban.

I am going to check around other national region of forums to see if they have anything close to such mass. Would report back if anything similar, if not, I won't bother posting anything.

... oh yea, and I darn hope those afk leechers in fort aspendwood are all banned... I should go play aspendwood now to see.

If Anet is smart I think they would unban all accounts that were in that large ban bunch, re-review the accounts to make sure that indeed they did or didn't do anything wrong and then ban all account that seem to be doing stuff wrong.

Concerning AFKing in the rings: I was doing that today for 8-9 hours while I was at work, no ban, or Net Errors.

With regards to ANets ongoing efforts to clean up the servers, they have my whole-hearted support. I have personally admined a gaming server in the past, and I'll tell ya something guys: it's a never ending battle against the unethical behavior that comes with online gaming. The moment a game stops being admined, is the same moment the game goes straight to hell. While their approach may need some refinement, I feel these kind of actions do far more good than harm.

Well, I just got home and discovered my recent banning.
Or, my account got 'suspended' for what I'm guessing is 24 hours, for 'inappropriate language.' Either way.
It says I've got 15 hours left, so I'm guessing it's obviously not a permaban.

I just find this rather funny, considering that, I would say a good percentage of the Guild Wars community uses inappropriate language. It's common in today's society, particularly in online conversations. It's more or less habitual as well.

So, if '4,000' people got banned for bots, and others have been banned for general misconduct, that's got to be a lot more than 6,000 bans. Few of which have been corrected.

If they didn't want inappropriate language present in-game, then why did they make the ability to take OFF the chat filter? WHY?

Rule 3 of the Guild Wars Rules of Conduct states:
"You may not use sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive language."

Is THAT classified as 'inappropriate language'? Becuase I don't recall doing any of the above in the last 24 hours of gameplay, or before for that matter.
Perhaps once in an argument, but people argue all the time, so what?
If people don't want to recieve negative retorts directed at them due to an argument, don't start arguments in general. Matter of fact, why not just go to a different district?

They say all this, yet they put a chat filter in-game, which can be turned OFF, thus allowing the majority of inappropriate language to be read. If people don't want to read it, don't take off the filter.
I realise a lot of stuff isn't caught by the filter, but what exactly do they classify as 'inappropriate language' aside from the above? If there's anything I do wrong in GW, it's swear in abundance. Yet, nowhere in the rules of conduct does it state that 'swearing' is prohibited. So for what 'inappropriate language' did I get my account suspended for? I realise 24 hours is nothing compared to a permanent ban, but I haven't been home for the majority of the day, so to come home to find that I can't do one of the few things I enjoy while home, simply because of language abuse, really angers me.

I'm sending a message to GW Support as we speak, so my appologies for the rant. I'm just slightly amused by this, and in all honesty, think that if they're going to ban so many people, they should at least give a less-vague description of WHY said users are being banned.
Suspending accounts for inappropriate language could mean suspending literally 90% of the game's community if it's such a bad problem. Good luck with that is all I have to say. Ban all, ban overhaul, or issue strict chat filtering at all times.

Great plan, let all the bots that were banned quickly trade all their stuff to another account, real great plan.

I agree with Cursed; however, Anet banning someone for buying and playing both games...reaching Master/Grandmaster titles, Ally title, >7 mil XP on your char, 1000's of hours of playing time, etc...how is that person considered a bot??? Even for those afk on a festival circle? What are they farming? A title... Their bot hunt needs a major refinement...or are witch hunts making a comeback?

I was unbanned after about 2 1/2 hours.

After being unbanned I decided to complete raisu palace(the mission I was on when I was banned) and during the mission a guildie was dc'd and banned, it appears that the bans are still happening, I decided to log out until this problem has been solved, I don't want to be permabanned twice in one day.

The bans appear to be random errors, I'm sure anet will work hard to prevent this type of problem from continuing; if they don't their sales from chapter 3 will be dismal at best.
